Peter Schöfer honoured in Munich

Last Saturday, the award-giving ceremony of the Bavarian motor sportsmen took place in the ‘Bayrischen Hof’ in Munich. T

he ADAC of Southern Bavaria had sent out the invitations to this event. Once again, Peter Schöfer was honoured for his outstanding performance in motor sports and for his Third Place in the FIA-European Championship and was awarded a golden plate.

Number three spot in Santa Pod and missing the Runner-Up title by just two points…

Last weekend was the weekend of the last FIA European Championship Race in Santa Pod, England.

Peter Schöfer came to this crucial race being in the number two spot in the points standing, only a few points behind the number one.

The crew, consisting of Peter, Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Heike Schäfer, Kirsten Krause and Ralf Rowold, were full of hope as one could see in the past races, that the PSR dragster was running well.

Peter was able to qualify in the number three spot, just behind the two leading  English drivers, Wilson and Turner. As always, the ETs in the Top Methanol Dragster field were very close as the competitors are very strong. Very often, there are just about a few hundredths of a second between the different drivers.

In the quarter finals, Pat could win the first elimination run against the newcomer in the European Championship, Derek Flynn from England. In the semi-finals, Pat was lined up against the English driver Rob Turner.  With Rob Turner being very strong at the lights, Pat took too much of a risk and red-lit.

Unfortunately, that meant that Rob Turner could catch up on our points standing so that Peter Schöfer missed the European Runner-Up title very narrowly by just two points.

We would like to congratulate Dave Wilson on his win of the European Championship title again and we would like to say thank you to all of our Top Methanol Dragster competitors for a great season.

However, before we are going to retire for the winter season, our dragster is going to be on display on three occasions .... more info is going to follow.

Radio and TV ...

Last Thursday, Pat and Gittli were invited by the Munich radio station Charivari, i.e. the night show of the well-known presenter Ali Khan. From 11 pm to 1 am, Ali asked loads of questions about our team and drag racing in general....which was really exciting ....

On Sunday coming the documentary that was shot about our team at the NitrOlympx in Hockenheim will be broadcast on the Bavarian TV Channel in the programme "Schwaben und Altbayern" between 6.05 pm and 6.45 pm.

Should there be a change to the schedule, then we’ll let you know here ....

Runner-up in Hockenheim ... and a new track record ...
Last weekend, Germany’s biggest drag racing event, the NitrOlympX, took place in Hockenheim.

For us, this event always represents a real highlight as it offers us and the other German drivers, who take part in the European Championship, a chance to perform in front of our home crowd, especially as a lot of fans and ‘petrol heads’ from our home town Moosburg had come, as always, to Hockenheim.

This time, Peter did not only come with his crew, consisting of Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Heike Schäfer, Kirsten Krause and Ralf Rowold, to Hockenheim. There was also a camera team from the Bavarian TV network company that had already accompanied and filmed us on our leaving day on Wednesday. The documentary is going to be broadcast in the programme 'Land und Leute’ on Sunday in a week’s, or in two weeks’, time (but we are surely going to confirm the date on this webpage).

The camera team of the Bavarian TV network company was ever present

In the Top Methanol Cannonball Race at Hockenheim, a direct comparison between Funnycars and Dragsters, the top two of three qualifying runs are summed up. So every run is important as every bad run would mean that the overall time would be increased, such preventing the team to run in the finals. To have equal and fair conditions, 0.30sec. are added to each Dragster run, as that is the average time that the Dragsters have been faster than the Funnycars for the past two years.

Pat had three perfect qualifying runs, even setting a new track record, and could thus qualify in the number one spot.

Top Methanol finalists: Peter Schöfer and Rob Turner at the drives’ presentation

The second finalist was the English driver Rob Turner.

Peter concentrated hard to get a perfect reaction time. Unfortunately he hit the accelerator too soon and red-lit. So Rob Turner won the race.

Admittedly, it’s a little bit disappointing, but ... that’s racing and Rob is definitely a very good starter ... unfortunately, Pat had risked too much ...

Runner-up in Sweden ... again with a lot of Rain ...
Last weekend, the third FIA European Championship Run took place in Mantorp Park, Sweden.

Once again, the whole crew had made the trip up north: Peter, Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Heike Schäfer, Björn Aldorsson and Kirsten Krause.

The expectations were running high and everyone was hoping for a weekend without rain because the first two championship races had been called off due to rain.

This year, there was the highest number of entries in Sweden ever: about 350 teams from 12 different countries.

left to right: Björn, Heike, Peter, Rudi, Gittli, Wolfi, Kirsten
Pictures: Remco Scheelings

With the start of the qualifying runs, the rain started as well so that there were long stretches of hanging around and waiting for the rain to stop. Nevertheless, the team was able to do one qualifying run each on Friday and on Saturday, qualifying in the number three spot with a 5.57 sec. pass. In the number two spot was Rob Turner, being 7 hundredths of a second ahead of Pat, and in the number one spot Wilson with 9 hundredths. Once again, the class proved how close its times are.

On Sunday, eliminations’ day, the showery weather continued to interrupt the elimination runs. In the quarter finals, Peter had to race the second German driver, Timo Habermann, who is well known for his quick reaction times. However, Pat won the race and had to face Rob Turner from England in the semi finals who had some technical problems. Being in the final, Pat had to race, like so many times before, David Wilson from England, who had had some problems both in the quarter finals and semi finals. In the end, Dave won with just about 3 hundredths of a second.

.. look at the Screen in the background ...

The next outing for the team is the biggest German Drag Racing Event, the NitrOlympx in Hockenheim on 17th till 19th August.

Second FIA-Championship Race, Second Rain-Out ...
Last weekend, the second FIA-Championship race took place in Alastaro, Finland. Peter Schöfer and his crew, consisting of Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Heike Schäfer, Björn Aldorsson and Kirsten Krause, were full of hope, longing for nicer weather and fast times after the rain-out of the first event in England in the end of May.

Travelling to Finland means 2000 km (1299 Miles) on the motorway to Stockholm, then a 13-hour-ferry ride to Turku and a further 200 km to the race track. So, one can easily see why this trip is always a special one.

After the race in England, the team had made a few changes to improve the performance of its 3500 hp strong dragster, e.g. the old rear axle was replaced by a new and stronger one. The reason for this change was the so-called tire shakes that appear when the dragster’s power cannot be put on the track properly. Then the rear tires start to wrap or wap, causing the wheels to hop and making Pat’s driving even more difficult than it already is.

However, the exchange of the rear axle entailed various alterations on the dragster and the trailer. As the dragster’s length increased by 5 cm it needed not only new side panels but also its trailer needed to be extended to fit it in for transport.

The qualifying runs on the first day were satisfactory because, despite a difficult and slightly uneven track, the car went in a straight line, without any tire shakes! The team was happy with its qualification in the third spot because the new rear axle could live up to its expectations. On the other hand, due to the changes to the dragster, its set-up and tuning had to be significantly changed as well so that the times of the qualifying runs were not really record-breaking.

On eliminations day, Peter could win the quarter final against the Norwegian driver Paul-Ingvar Udtian before it started to chuck down with rain so badly that the second meeting was called as well because the powerful dragsters can only be driven on absolutely dry tracks.

At the moment, Peter Schöfer is in the second spot in the FIA-European Championship points standing.

In the end of July, the team is going to travel up to Sweden to the third and hopefully dry FIA-European Championship Race.

Showlauf at the Speeddays in Alkersleben ...

Last weekend, there were the Speeddays in Alkersleben, near Erfurt and this time the PSR team consisted of the Schöfer brothers Pat, Wolfi and Rudi as well as Gittli Koller, Ralf Rowold and Kirsten Krause with his partner Christl.

Our team, like 16 other European drag racing teams coming from Germany, Denmark and Belgium, had been invited to do show runs during the quarter mile and the Street Eliminator race.

The quarter mile race is open to everyone to compete in so that one could see not only all the German car manufacturers but also some rather exotic vehicles. So, the field was a mix of very different cars, running very different times.

The Street Eliminator racing takes place on various international race tracks this year again.

The invited drag racing teams were chosen to represent the entire spectre of the international sport, so that there were different bike and car classes.  Our dragster represented the most powerful vehicle, alongside the Pro Mod of Norbert Kuno, the Pro Stock car of Harry Sturhan as well as the Bel Air of Klaus Romahn.

Unfortunately, due to a very tight schedule, we didn’t have the time to do all four show runs. Nevertheless, the dragster was able to impress the audience very much with its show.

Our next big event will be the second European Championship Race in Finland…And for all those, that do not know how far Finland is from here: there are about 2000 km (1200 mls) to Stockholm (Sweden), then there is a 13-hour-ferry-ride to Turku (Finland) ... and then another two hours to the race track ...let’s hope that all that’ll be worth it to achieve new ETs and a good placement in the championship.

Raining instead of Racing ...
Last weekend, the first race of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship was supposed to take place in Santa Pod, England. The team, consisting of Peter, Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Kirsten Krause, Heike Schäfer and Alfred Widmann, had tried to prepare itself well for the new season and was looking forward to finally going racing again. As always, the European driver elite were present, as well as some new drivers.

Qualifying:
The two qualifying runs of the first day varied. The first run was quite good so that Pat was the top qualifier after it. However, the set-up for the second run was far too powerful for the track so that Peter wasn’t able to improve upon his first run. Therefore, the team had to keep its hope up for the second qualifying day but, unfortunately, it started to rain.

This rain then determined the first race meet: it wouldn’t stop raining for the next two days, sometimes even deteriorating to a storm, so that the promoter of the race didn’t have a choice but had to announce a rain-out on the third day.

Unlike in the USA, the racing isn’t then postponed to the next weekend.

It’s a real shame because travelling all the way from Aich to England costs a lot of time and effort. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the weather at the second FIA race meet in Alastaro, Finland, will be better as it’s even harder to get all the way up north.

Until then, the Peter Schöfer Racing team has got another show event at a national event in Thüringen the coming weekend.

PSR in Kunmandaras, Hungary ...

With Monday being a bank holiday in Germany and Hungary, we travelled all the way to Kunmandaras, Hungary, to perform two show runs there. Travelling 800 km one way might sound a bit excessive, but as can be seen on the pictures below, it was definitely worth it.

Like at the event in August 2006, there was a huge and very enthusiastic crowd. The events at Kunmandaras, that take place on a former Russian airfield, are mainly bike events. Nevertheless, the spectators were deeply impressed by Pat’s show.

PSR at the DTM in Hockenheim ...
At the weekend we were guests at the the DTM in Hockenheim.

Our team had been invited to perform a show run immediately before the start of the DTM on Sunday at noon.  There was a very tight schedule as our show run was set to take place after a gig by Reamonn and his band and right before the start of the DTM race. So, the timing for our burn out and show run had to be spot on and all that in front of an amazing crowd.

The fans cheered already like mad when Pat did his burnout and (as always) Pat managed to impress the spectators with his show.

Peter Schöfer is awarded the coveted challenge cup of the DvD
Last weekend, the yearly prize giving ceremony of the first Drag Racing Association Germany took place in Blankenbach. Already during the afternoon, numerous drivers and promoters were present at the annual general meeting.

In the evening, the prize for the most successful German dragster driver was awarded in a great ambiance and during an excellent dinner.

Like last year, Peter Schöfer from Aich received the huge challenge cup as he had been in every final, and won some, of the European Championship with his Top Methanol Dragster.

The third place went to Patricia Kästner, the second one to Norbert Kuno.

Norbert Kuno and Peter Schöfer are both drivers of the Bavarian Drag Race Club, the biggest German Drag racing Association.

Once again, Peter Schöfer was honoured for his outstanding performance in motor sports and for his Runner-Up FIA-European Championship title and was awarded a golden plate.

The presenter did not only stress the experiences of many years in motor sports of Peter Schöfer, but he also explained to the audience that the 3200 hp dragster of the team Schöfer is able to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 0.87 sec. The people present, amongst them well-known sportsmen and people of the industry, were visibly impressed.

Peter wins in England and is Runner-Up European Champion 2006

Last weekend, the last of the FIA European Championship races took place in England. Peter went into this decisive race being second in the points standing, still within reach of the championship title.

The team, represented by Peter, Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Heike Schäfer and Alfred Sieben, was full of hope as it had proved in the prior races that it was a strong competitor. However, the team did not only have to beat the championship leader by one round, they also had to aim for the low ET of the event, worth five extra points.

Qualifying:
Peter qualified second with a 5.49 sec run, only four hundredths of a second behind Dave Wilson, the English driver who was leading the championship by a small lead. Qualified number three,
the other English driver Rob Turner, was just three thousandths of a second

behind  Peter. Once again, the Top Methanol Dragster class, in which the team from Aich competes, proved how strong its field was by running such close times which are much closer than in many other classes. So, being qualified in the second spot, Peter had a very good basis to start from in the uneven number of competitors in the eliminations.

Eliminations:
In the quarter finals, Pat could win against the new driver in the European Championship, Rickard Persson from Sweden, and due to the uneven number of drivers, he had a bye-run in the semi-finals. So, as so often before, the finalists were Schöfer against Wilson.

That meant that the pressure was really on our team as we did not only have to win but also beat Wilson’s low ET of the whole weekend.

Peter had the better start and the set-up of the dragster was better so that he could win the race. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the low ET points, which he missed by three hundredths of a second so that he finished the FIA European Championship 2006 as Runner-Up.
The team is very happy with this result, despite the fact that it missed out on the title so narrowly. Nevertheless, the achievements in this season were tremendous: Peter Schöfer was in every final of the European Championship, he became second three times and he won three races.

The team would like to thank all of its sponsors and especially its friends, who are always eager to help and without whom this success would not be possible.

To finish off this busy season, the team’ll be off to Modena, Italy, where it’ll do some show runs during the Italian championship.

Bike and Music Weekend ...

Last weekend we went to the  Bike-and-Music-Weekend in Geiselwind.

The Strohofer Family and the Night-Riders did again a great event and the 20.000 spectators were more than happy.

There have been several Show-Dragster on two and on four wheels.

One of the highlights was, without a doubt, our dragster. And Peter did several burnout demo passes. (pictures soon)

------------------------------- 29th August 2006 -------------------------------

Two shows and winning in front of the home crowd in Hockenheim

Geiselwind:
After racing in Gardermoen (Norway), we travelled straight on to the Bike-and-Music-Weekend in Geiselwind. This event does not only cater to those, loving bikes and US cars, but also to those, loving rock music. Pat was asked to do three burnout shows, which isn’t as easy as it sounds, considering the short and tricky track. However, once again Pat managed not to disappoint any of his fans (the pictures speak for themselves).

Geiselwind pictures © ALL4YOU-PR.de; Klaus Bitzer

On the following weekend, we packed up everything again to travel to Kunmandaras, Hungary, for another show run. Kunmandaras is located about 100miles to the east of Budapest. Once there, we didn’t only find a 3,5km-long-race track, built on a former Russian airfield, but also a huge crowd of enthusiastic racing fans.

Many of the spectators and other participants hadn’t seen one of the big dragsters before. That’s why there was a huge interest in and reaction to the four burnout shows that Peter presented.

Only a few days later, the biggest dragster race in Europe, the NitOlympx, took place in Hockenheim. For all German teams and especially for those that also race abroad, it is always a special highlight to perform in front of their home crowd. A lot of fans and race fans from the Moosburg area had travelled up in order to see the fastest motor sport in the world in Hockenheim.

This year, the race was only a European Championship run for the bikes, but it was also part of the German Championship for the smaller car classes. For the bigger car classes, the race was an invitational event, meaning that there wouldn’t be a chance to improve the points standings in the European Championship.

Unfortunately, the weather god wasn’t in favour of the participants and spectators this year and because of the never ending rain, no runs could take place on Friday. Saturday’s weather was slightly better and that’s why some of the drivers and the promoter of the event wanted to treat the 60 000 spectators and decided to go out for a run, despite the track still being wet. Pat and Timo Habermann, who competes in the same class, did an unheard-of burnout show and the spectators were thrilled.

On Sunday, the weather had improved tremendously and so the team, being Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Heike Schäfer and Alfred Sieben with his two sons, Patrick and Robert, was able to do three runs on that day.

We took part in a so-called cannonball race. That means that there was a direct comparison between Funnycars and dragsters because the time of every qualification run is added up, so that every run should be as fast as possible. There really shouldn’t be a gaffe as that would increase the overall time, because only the top two drivers make it into the final.

Pat performed two perfect qualification runs (running twice 5.63 sec, reaching 410 km/h) and could qualify in the number one spot. The second finalist was Ulf Leander from Sweden in his Funnycar. Pat was able to decide this race for himself as well and he won the 21st NitrOlympx in Hockenheim.

Next weekend, the team is going to travel to the last European Championship Race in England. Then, we’ll have to work hard again as Pat is still in with a chance to become European Champion, being only shortly behind the leading English driver Wilson.

Twice Runner-Up in Scandinavia ...

Now, we have returned from our Scandinavian Tour because the third and fourth FIA European Championship Races took place in Mantorp Park (Sweden) and Gardermoen (Norway).

Peter Schöfer and his crew, consisting of Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Alfred Sieben, Björn Aldorsson and Heike Schäfer, travelled up to Scandinavia full of hope as the team had been leading in the points standing and wanted to extend its lead even further. However, sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way.

Mantorp Park - Sweden
The track in Sweden is part of a circuit and therefore the second half of the race distance (200m) goes uphill. That’s why one can normally not expect amazing ETs at this event.

Qualifying:
The qualifying runs went quite well and the team was satisfied with it being qualified second. Like so many times before, the top qualifier was only in the lead by a few hundredths of a second.

Eliminations:
Pat could decide the quarter final for himself and met the British driver Rob Turner in the semi-final. Pat was the first to cross the finishing line (with a 5.46 / 259 mph) and so, he had to face the other British driver, Dave Wilson, like so often before, in the final.

However, this time the team was unlucky because the bolts of the blower of the 3200-hp-strong dragster broke. That’s why the race, although having had the better reaction time and having been in the lead until then, was lost and the English driver could decide the race for himself. With that win, Wilson was able to just about take over the lead in the championship, ahead of Peter Schöfer.

After the race is before the race
At least in this case, because the two Scandinavian races take place on two consecutive weekends and that’s why Pat and his crew, after having completely overhauled the dragster, left Sweden to travel on to Norway.

Nevertheless, there was some time to relax for two days on a campsite in Karlstad, together with many other central European teams.

Gardermoen - Norway

The track in Gardermoen is a very good track, allowing for record times. Unfortunately, at this weekend a lot of teams had to fight hard, trying to find a good set-up. The temperature was over 30°C and the track was sometimes 50°C hot, which didn’t help in the attempts of trying to find the right tuning.

Qualifying:
The dragster didn’t run as well as we had hoped and we had to fight severe tyre shakes. Thus, we were only able to qualify third.

Eliminations:
On race day, Pat was lucky, especially in the semi-final, when his opponent was the British driver Rob Turner. Pat had a bad tyre shake and slid across his track from left to right. However, Rob Turner had to fight even worse problems and so, Peter managed to get through to the final. Once again, this meant driving against the Brit Dave Wilson.

Unfortunately for us, the Brit could decide this final for himself as well. Pat had an ingenious reaction time of 0.02 sec. and took over the lead but the Brit had found the better tuning for his car and won the race, extending his lead in the FIA European Championship points standing even further.

Nevertheless, we are still in a position to decide the championship for ourselves, on the last FIA European Championship Race in mid September.

Until then, the team has been and will be very busy indeed. Last weekend, we went to the Bike-and-Music-Weekend in Geiselwind and at the end of the week, we’ll be off to Kunmadaras, Hungary, for another show run, before performing at the NitrOlympX in Hockenheim from the 25 - 27 August.

Only 0.008 sec. behind the winner ...

Last weekend, the second European Championship Race took place in Alastaro (Finland).

Peter Schöfer and his team had already left home a week beforehand, in order to do a show-run in Chimay, Belgium. At the event "King of Europe", there were not only street legal cars from 11 countries but also more than 20 000 fans, that were enthusiastic about the 3 200 hp strong dragster of the Schöfer team.

Following the weekend in Belgium, the team travelled on to Finland to defend its leading position in the championship at the second European Championship run of the season. The journey went via Germany, Denmark and Sweden up to Stockholm on the road, then a 13-hour-ferry ride to Finland followed. One way, the team had to cover more than 1500 miles (one way), not counting the ferry crossing. Nevertheless, the journey through the amazing Scandinavian landscape is always very enjoyable.

Having won the first European Championship Race in England, the team, consisting of Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Alfred Sieben, Björn Aldorsson and Heike Schäfer, was optimistic. The Finnish track is extremely difficult and demands a lot of skills from the driver and the tuner of the dragster as its state and surface are not ideal.

Qualifying:
The dragster ran smoothly and that’s how Pat managed to qualify first with an excellent 5.49 sec. run.

We were very happy about being top qualifier as the Brit Dave Wilson was only a few thousands of a second slower than us.

Eliminations:
In the semi final, Pat had to race against the Swede Krister Johannson. Pat could win this race so that he had to face the Brit Dave Wilson, like so many times before, in the final. In the semi final in England, Peter had been able to beat Dave Wilson with a narrow lead. This time, however, the English driver was the lucky one so that Pat lost the final with 0.008 seconds (8 thousandths of a second).

Nevertheless, the team Schöfer is still leading in the points standing and will try very hard to defend, and possibly extend, its lead in Mantorp, Sweden, in three weeks time.

New season and a win in the first race ...

The Bavarian Thunder lived up to its name and thundered towards victory

Last weekend, the first FIA Drag Racing Championship Race took place in Santa Pod (England) in which Peter Schöfer from Aich took part again.
The team, namely Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Alfred Sieben, Alfred Widmann and Heike Schäfer, had tried to prepare itself as well as possible for the new season, starting it with a lot of optimism.
Once again, the European elite of drag racers was present and some more new racers are going to join the championship later in the season.

Qualifying:

The qualifying rounds were continuously interrupted and influenced by the bad weather in England. In the end, Pat could qualify in the third spot. However, in all qualification runs the dragster and Pat were hit by brutal tyre shakes that we had to get under control.

Eliminations
:

The elimination runs took place on bank holiday Monday. In the quarter finals, Pat had to compete against the Swedish driver Krister Johansson who is, without doubt, one of the strongest drivers in Europe in his A-Fuel dragster. Nevertheless, the Schöfer dragster was faster and that’s why Pat had to face the acting European Champion Dave Wilson from England in the semi-finals. Peter could

decide this exciting race for himself with a holeshot. The Brit wasn’t able to catch up on him in the course of the quarter mile, although being the faster one. So, Pat reached the finish line first, ahead of Wilson by 0.006 seconds, which are the equivalent of about 39 inches.

For the finals, the team hoped to be able to step up even more and tuned the 3200- hp-strong dragster accordingly. To change the set up is always difficult because one has to pay attention that one is able to put the power onto the track. But the team took the right decision and beat the Brit Rob Turner by a dragster’s length with a terrific time of 5,460 seconds and running 258 mph. This time is just 3 hundredths of a second slower than the European record.

The team is thrilled with this outcome and leads in the FIA points standing for the coming four weeks. Then, the second FIA European Championship race is going to take place in Finland. Beforehand, the team will head to the ‘King of Europe’ festival in Belgium, where street-legal cars from all over Europe will compete against each other, providing a lot of entertainment and fun for their spectators.

Finally, we would like to say thank you to all of our sponsors, fans and friends that help us and to everyone, who is as happy about our first win as we are.

Carshows before we go to the first race ...

Last weekend our dragster was on display at the open house day of the company MIGACUT in Moosburg. The dragster got big attention of the visitiors.

A hundredths of a second separated Peter Schöfer from the Runner-Up European Champion Title...

The last race of this year's FIA European Championship took place in Santa Pod last weekend. Again, the Peter Schöfer Team from Aich, represented by Peter, Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, as well as Gittli Koller, Heike Schäfer and Stefan Disselborg, was present.

The season 2005 was everything but enjoyable because two of the five European Championship Runs were rained off. The first two races, in England and Finland, at the beginning of the season went well for the team from Aich as Peter Schöfer achieved a third and second place. After the Scandinavian races in Sweden and Norway, which were the ones that were cancelled due to rain, the driver from Aich was in the number two spot, together with the English driver Rob Turner.

Qualifying:
However, the rain followed us so that it rained heavily last weekend as well. Therefore, the dragster drivers could only fight for a good qualifying position on Friday as Saturday's qualifying session never took place because of rain. Pat had qualified in the # 4 spot which was the worst qualifying position of the last four years. One should bear in mind, though, that the Methanol dragsters always qualify within hundredths of seconds and therefore it was very close again at this race.

 Eliminations:
In the quarter finals, which was the deciding race for us with regard to the Championship, Pat met his opponent Rob Turner. Pat had lost two hundredths of a second at the start but already managed to take the lead after 20 metres. Everything went well, the 60ft time (0.90) was very good. Unfortunately, the English driver managed to catch up shortly before the finish line so that Peter lost the run by a hundredths of a second. This is the equivalent to just a few centimetres.

Once again, it became obvious how close the performances of the Top Methanol Dragster class are and that the racing of this class takes place on a very high level. So, just a split second decides who'll win and who'll lose.

 Resume 2005:
Admittedly, we are sad to have lost the Runner-Up European Championship title but we are still happy to be third in the European Championship in this high-class field.

Having changed a lot at our engine at the beginning of the season, we knew that it would take some time to find a good set-up. At the second race of the year we became second, followed by two races that were rained off. We could use our runs to improve upon our performance and we are sure that there is still a lot of potential left in our dragster. And...we are going to give everything to be amongst the top in 2006 again.

In two weeks, the team is going to leave to Modena for the last European race of this year, this time as a guest of a race of the Italian Championship, which invited Peter Schöfer and his team.

Far too much rain...

On the past two weekends the next two European Championship Runs - the Scandinavian Tour - took place, or rather, was supposed to take place.

Mantorp Park, Sweden
The team left for Linköping (Sweden) in nice summery weather. This time, everyone was on board: Peter, Wolfi and Rudi Schöfer as well as Alfred Sieben, Heike Schäfer, Björn Aldorsson and Gittli Koller.

Qualifying:
The qualifying runs were quite good and the teams was able to qualify #2. Unfortunately, we were not able to improve upon our set-up, as the bad weather had set in and we could only run three of the five qualifying runs.

Eliminations:
On race day, we were forced to wait for long hours, instead of going racing, as it kept raining. So, the FIA classes could only run one elimination round that Peter could decide for himself. Then, a rain-out was announced.

In-between racing in Sweden and Norway, most of the central European teams spend their three free days on a camp site in Karlstad, Sweden, and you might have guessed: it rained on and off here as well.

Gardermoen, Norway
The race track Gardermoen is situated right next to the airport of Oslo, which had the advantage that we could get a rather good weather forecast: rain.

Qualifying:
So, only two qualifying rounds could take place on Friday. After some technical changes, we had found a set-up that we were very happy with. Accordingly, Peter managed to qualify in the #2 spot, having run 5.54 sec, a time we were very pleased about.

However, our good mood lasted only for a short time as it rained throughout Saturday so that there were no more qualifying runs.

Eliminations:
On race day, the weather didn't improve at all - it rained cats and dogs. Huge vehicles from the airport kept running all day, trying to swallow up as much water as possible - 6000 litres of water on a lengths of 1200 metres! But all attempts were in vain so that the promoter was forced to cancel the racing in the afternoon.

We are now sharing the number two spot with the exact number of points with the English driver Rob Turner. We won't be able to become European Champion any more but we'll try our best to bring back the runner-up European Championship title to Aich. The last race in England will be the deciding one.

A 4000 km round trip and a 2nd place in Alastaro, Finland...

Last weekend, the second of our European Championship Drag Racing runs took place in Alastaro, Finland. This trip meant that we, the Peter Schöfer team from Aich, had to cover the furthest distance of all of our races as Alastaro is situated around 100km to the west of Helsinki. For the first time, the team took the Superfast ferry from Rostock to Hanko (Finland) so that the single trip only took two days, instead of normally three. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Superfast Ferries for their support.

Unfortunately, Alfred Sieben surprisingly couldn't join the team this time so that the three Schöfer brothers Peter, Wolfi and Rudi as well as Gittli Koller set off to Finland by themselves. Luckily, they met Björn Aldorsson from Sweden and one of their friends, Josef Brandmeier from Zolling, who was spending a holiday in Helsinki and who joined the team spontaneously, there.

Qualifying:
We were quite happy with the results of our qualifying runs. Pat qualified third, just two thousandths of a second behind the English driver Turner, who qualified second. Just to make things more complicated, Wolfgang had a slipped disk, which he contracted during the first qualifying day and which caused him a lot of pain. In addition, the track in Finland is rather tricky and because of its condition and the rain of the past days it wasn't possible to run record times. So, all of the teams and us had to think hard to find the right set-up and to get the 3200hp strong dragster securely and quickly down the track.

Eliminations:
On elimination's day, the team was lucky so that they could win the quarter finals against a very strong Krister Johansson and the semi-finals against the English driver Rob Turner. That meant that Pat and Dave Wilson from England once again faced each other in the finals. Pat had the better start and was leading for more than half of the distance, but, unfortunately, Pat had the worse lane, so Wilson could catch up, take the lead and pip Pat at the post.  Once again, the Top Methanol Dragster class made it obvious how close the field is and that often only a hundredths or a thousandths of a second lies between the racers. Thus a bit of luck can decide who wins or loses.

With this second place, Peter Schöfer and his team could gain some points in the point standings before setting off to the third Championship Run in Sweden in three weeks time.

Just a small remark to finish off:
According to the official statistics of the FIA Drag Racing Runs, which have been taking place since 1996, the name of the driver who has reached most finals of all races and classes is Peter Schöfer.

We are happy to welcome a new sponsor, the company Harry Wegner (technical wholesale). on board.

3rd place at the Main Event in Santa Pod...

With the dragster season having started, we - namely Peter, Wolfi and Rudi Schöfer, Alfred Sieben, Heike Schäfer and Gittli Koller -  went to our first European Championship run to Santa Pod, England, last weekend.

After the successful testing weekend in Monza, Italy, we were really motivated and were looking forward to the race in England.

Qualifying:
Having made the before-mentioned alterations to the car, we decided before the qualifying runs to take small steps and to go for safe runs. Thus, we slowly got the feel for the new set-up so that Peter could improve his ETs  with every run, qualifying fourth. As always, the times run in the Top Methanol Dragster field lay just hundredths of seconds apart.

Eliminations:
During Monday's elimination runs, Pat managed successfully to step up with every run, such reaching the semi-finals. However, then the crucial incident happened: after an amazing start one of the joints, linking the transmission bell housing with the frame, broke. The dragster's rear end bent left and the vehicle started to swerve dangerously from side to side.

Thanks to Pat's great experience and excellent driving skills, he managed to gain control over the car again, such preventing any major damage to himself or the car. Only the front tyres blistered during this wild ride and lost huge chunks of rubber.

To finish off, some technical facts: the fasted 60 ft (about 20 metres) time in our class was 0.905 seconds up to now. Having had a good start-line reaction  time, Pat reached a 60 ft time of 0.884 seconds in his semi-final-run. That means that he was already a whole length of a car ahead of his opponent after 40 metres before his wild ride started.

All in all, the team is satisfied with its third place. The new components and the new frame proved that this season will be run with even more power.

----------------------------23rd  May 2005 -------------------------------

Let's go testing ...

Having received the missing parts from the USA and having returned from the exhibitions, there was still a lot of work to get on with on our dragster.

A new roll cage, i.e. the top part of it, was fitted on the chassis with its new rear part as Peter had apparently grown at bit. So, now, it should be much easier for him to get into and out of his dragster again.

Then, last Friday, we were off to Monza, Italy, where we had been invited to attend a race at the Italian Drag Racing Championship. The starting and finishing line in Monza is really long enough for quarter-mile racing. Unfortunately, it is part of the circuit so that it cannot be as well prepared as a pure drag strip.

On top of drag racing, there were drift championship races, where street cars were really pushed to their limits. This year there were even more visitors than last year (and that with the Formula One Racing going on in Monaco). The Italians are simply mad about motor sport.

As the team didn't only change things at the chassis but also at the engine in order to be able to adapt more easily to varying track and other conditions, we were very happy with the results of our tests.

Having just returned from Italy, we'll set off in two days time again. This time, it'll really be serious business as the first race of the FIA-European Championship 2005 takes place in Santa Pod, England, from 27th till 31 May.

Finally, we are very happy to welcome a new sponsor on board: the well-known company Uvex which sells a wide range of products for motor sports and bike sports.

------------------------------- 15th  April 2005 -------------------------------

AMI 2005 - Automobile International ...

Once we were back from the USA, the brothers Wolfi, Pat and Rudi started straight away to re-build the rear end of our dragster. Pipes were shaped, welded and... our dragster looks like one of the big guys now.

However, the brothers didn't have a lot of time as the first event took place at the end of March: the Automobil International 2005. This fair attracts more and more people every year and broke last year's visitor record again this year: more than 274 000 visitors came from 2 till 10 April.

Unfortunately, we had to change the display that we had planned on our 230-square-metre big booth rather quickly. So, together with an old Trabant, which had been professionally modified by its owners, we represented the range of drag racing. Michael Augustin, who organises quarter-mile-races race@airport in Merseburg (near Leipzig) helped us.

------------------------------- 10th  March 2005 -------------------------------

Back home ...

Our trip to the USA was a great success. We got what we needed - apart from the Las Vegas jackpot ... which is a shame.

Before travelling to the USA in early February, we had been thinking long and hard about what to change in the coming season. We made a lot of phone calls, exchanged emails and in the end, we came to the decision to change two basic things: first to re-build the entire rear end of our 5.43 sec. dragster, as the severe tyre shakes of the past years had left their marks. Second, to make some changes at the engine in order to be able to adapt more easily to the varying track and other conditions.

In the USA we learnt a lot, as usual, and we do hope that we'll be able to put our newly gained insights into practice. It's really nice to have friends that support us so actively. Many thanks.

------------------------------- 15th  January 2005 -------------------------------

No rest for the wicked ...

...although it might have been nice to have a break, especially in those icy conditions...

We are all set for our trip to the  USA. There, we'll visit - as always - the Test&Tune Weekend in Las Vegas. On those weekends we can always learn a lot as we have got the opportunity to talk to the teams about parts, tuning and speed. And...our shopping list is rather long... but we might be lucky and hit the jackpot in Vegas ... you never know what might happen :-))

------------------------------- 10th  November 2004 -------------------------------

And the show goes on ...

Straight after the race in Santa Pod, we were on our way again to a race in Modena, Italy, where we did some show runs as a special attraction during the last round of the Italian Championship. What a great end to an active season 2004.

However, shortly afterwards we went to a further exhibition, the PS-Show in Wels (Austria) in order to display our dragster. The show attracts more and more people from Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

Runner-up in Santa Pod and Runner-up Champion 2004 .....

The sixth and final race of the FIA-European Championship took place in Santa Pod (England). This time, the crew was represented by Peter, Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Alfred Sieben and Heike Schäfer.

Before travelling to Santa Pod, the team had had some show-runs during the 'Werner-das-Rennen' event. This event took place on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz on the first September weekend and did not only offer drag racing but also music and a lot of fun for the many spectators. So, the Schöfer brothers had only one day to recover before setting off for England.

Qualifying:
Having arrived in Santa Pod, our worst opponent seemed to be the heavy gales that influenced the entire race weekend. Again and again, the races were interrupted because of the stormy weather. However, Peter Schöfer could use each of his runs to improve upon his personal bests and he qualified second.

Again, the top three qualifiers were separated by only 0,08 seconds, demonstrating once more how tight the TMD field is.

Eliminations:
During the semi-finals, Peter had to run against Rob Turner, the winner of Hockenheim. This time, Peter could take revenge and beat the English driver already at the start. Rob had had the faster time but Peter had had the quicker reaction time, thus reaching the finish line first.

And, like so many times before, Peter was up against the other English driver, Dave Wilson, in the finals. Here Pat had to stake everything on one chance but unfortunately, he risked too much and lost the finals because of a red light.

Nevertheless, Peter became the runner-up in the FIA European Top Methanol Dragster Championship.

Looking back, we can say that our team has completed a successful season in which Peter had to face strong opponents. We couldn't have been so successful without the ongoing support and help of our friends nor without the support of our sponsors.
So THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your effort and your support.

Now, the calmer winter season with some more exhibitions will start.
And next year, we'll be back, with 3000hp, a strong crew and the objective to be amongst the top qualifiers again.

------------------------------- August 26th 2004 -------------------------------

Third place in Hockenheim .....

The fifth Championship run took place in Hockenheim (Germany). This track means a lot to Peter Schöfer and the team (Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Alfred and Patrick Sieben, Holger Werling and Heike Schäfer) because it is the only Championship run that takes place in Germany and because it is one of the biggest dragster meets in Europe, watched by more than 50 000 spectators.

Qualifying:
The dragster race track at Hockenheim is not part of the race circuit. It was built as its own permanent track within the circuit. Unfortunately, the track is still cleaned and prepared during the preparations for the Formula One races every year which is of a big disadvantage for the following drag racing event. The track cannot optimally be prepared which could be seen during both qualifying days because it was difficult to run quick times. Peter qualified third, only 6 hundredths of a second behind the top qualifier.

Bild1hock.jpg (27074 Byte)
After this slightly disappointing weekend, the team will travel on to a drag racing event on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz (3rd till 5th September), called "Werner, das Rennen" (Werner, the race). The event, organised by the main sponsor, does not only offer drag racing but also 20 bands on two stages and a Werner-village for the fans of the German cult figure Werner (a cartoon character).

Once returned from the EuroSpeedway, we are travelling straight on to England, where the sixth and last Championship run will take place. Still holding second place in the Championship, we are in with a reasonable chance to become runner-up again in this year's Championship.

Elimination:
On Sunday, elimination's' day, the team of Peter Schöfer was well prepared and had chosen the right set-up. In the beginning of the race, Peter was in the lead but, unfortunately, there were some remains of an oil down left on the left track so that Peter Schöfer's tyres started to slip half-way down the track. In the previous race, a vehicle had lost a lot of oil while damaging its engine and not everything had been cleaned properly. The result was that Peter narrowly missed the qualification for the finals and became third.

Runner up at the race in Alastaro (Finland) .....

The second FIA European Championship Run took place in Alastaro (Finland). Peter Schöfer and most of the team members (Wolfgang and Rudi Schöfer, Gittli Koller, Alfred Sieben and Björn Aldorsson) travelled for more than 4000 km (2500 mls) and spent 26 hours on the ferry to be able to take part.

This time, there were no incidents worth mentioning on the way up, apart from never-ending rain. So, we arrived in Alastaro, which is situated about 100km to the west of Helsinki, without any problems.

Qualifying:

On Friday, the team could gather important data in its first qualifying runs. It was quite tricky as new tarmac had been put down on  the race track so that the traction there was different to that of the rest of the track. Therefore, a lot of sensitivity was needed in the set-up of the dragster as well as excellent driving skills on Peter's part. But here, we can rely on Peter who seems to work as well as his dragster and who will celebrate his 20-year-drag-racing anniversary this year. Unfortunately, we were not able to have any further qualifying runs on Saturday as it didn't stop raining. That meant that we were in the number two spot for the race on Sunday.

Elimination:

On Sunday,
